TitleInfluence Strategies Exercise
ShortDescriptionThe Influence Strategies Exercise (ISE) helps participants identify and develop their influencing techniques. It helps individuals identify the strategies they tend to use, evaluate their effectiveness, and stretch their ability to impact others.
LongDescriptionThe ISE encourages individuals to think about how effective their preferred strategies really are - and then step out of their "comfort zone". It's particularly useful: - when you need a simple, straightforward way to get people thinking about how they influence others - and how their strategies are perceived by others - when working with people in non-managerial roles - we all have people we need to influence - as a building block for other tools like Management Styles or Emotional Intelligence - for self assessment, coaching, in development programs or alongside other tools to give a bigger picture of behavior and impact - for discovering how others perceive your influence strategies - by using the feedback version of the questionnaire The exercises assess users ability to influence people from nine points of view: - Empowerment: Making others feel valued by giving them praise - Interpersonal Awareness: Identifying other people's concerns - Bargaining: Gaining support by offering to exchange favors or resources - Relationship Building: Taking time to get to know others personally - Organizational Awareness: Identifying and getting support of key people - Common Vision: Showing how one's ideas support the organization's goals Impact Management: Presenting ideas in such a way as to gain people's support - Logical Persuasion: Using logical reasons, facts, and data to convince others - Coercion: Using threats or pressure to get others to do what you want Costs: - ISE questionnaire & workbook, set of 10: $95 - ISE feedback version, set of 10: $35
